The u3a is a national organisation for people who are retired or semi-retired, and no longer in full time employment, providing creative, educational and leisure opportunities in a friendly environment.
Local u3as throughout the UK organise and provide interest groups in accordance with the wishes of its membership, by drawing on the skills of its members, sharing their knowledge and experience to develop their abilities by learning from each other. This offers members the chance to take part in numerous activities, in such fields as art, languages, music, history, life sciences, philosophy, crafts, computing, photography and walking.
We at Blackmore Vale are a fledgling part of the u3a organization, having only started in 2014. We are keenly looking to expand our membership, and increase the interest groups and activities that we run. Most groups meet once or twice a month and many have outings during the year where shared travel is normally arranged.
No qualifications are needed or gained and none are given, learning is a pleasure and can be fun, and a great way to keep active mentally, physically and socially. The current membership fee is still £15 a year and entitles you to join any of our groups and participate in numerous events. All you need to join is an interest and enthusiasm.
